Green Lantern Corps
Two men sit together in a dark, shadowy bar. One man is African-American, speaks in proper American English. He doesn't slouch, doesn't slur his words; you can tell he's been in the marines. His hands are covered in blood.
The other man a white man, a ginger, Baltimore accent, he's covered in blood, splattered all over his attire. More rash, more bash. His tone is harder, angrier than the other man.
"That was a helluva fight, huh?", the white man says as he drinks from his pitcher.
"Hell's nothing compared to what just happened.", the black man says, in a more sober tone, "trust me - I've seen hell." He pauses, looking at his reflection in the table, before continuing to drink.
"Yeah, well, good thing we just happened to be a solar system with a fuckin' bar," taking another swig, "with actual beer, too. Don't get nothin' this good on Oa."
The bartender approaches them, a purple-skinned man with a mustache, uttering "you need anythin' else or you want yer bill?" as the white man finishes her beer.
"Keep 'em comin' doc",
Suddenly, the door to the bar opens and a figure steps through the door way. Their identity is obscured by the burst of sun light behind him.
The light fades, revealing a 5-eyed woman, with deep red skin and horns protruding from her temples. She wears Amazonian-style battle-armor. She walks towards the two men, shouting "Y'ALL THINK YOU'SE TWO CAN WALTZ INTO MY PLANET AND DRINK AT MY BAR? NO LANTERNS ALLOWED WHILE I'M BREATHIN!"
The bartender ducks and hides, whispering to himself in a panic, "Lanterns? Lanterns?" repeatedly.
"Your turn, Guy." said the black man, continuing to sip his beer, not moving an inch.
"Heh, my daddy taught me not to hit girls, but he's dead," Guy says as he turns around and gets off barstool. He thrusts his fist forward, revealing a green ring on his right hand.
A green glowing light begins to emerge from the ring, taking the shape of a fist hurling towards the woman. The woman's eyes enlarge, as she realizes she's out of her league.
Guy one-lines, "beware my power, cunt, " the fist makes contact, as she is launched into the sky. He smirks.
Guy turns around and casually sits back at the bar, "another round, doc', I just sobered up a bit," he faces his friend, "you know, John, I was gonna start my own bar back before all this happened. Even had the name picked-out. Before the ring found me, gave me this new job."
John looks at Guy, "we were all different, had different goals before the ring - hell, I was an architect for the past few years. The ring, it takes you and gives you something new. A reason to live and a different way of serving your people."
Guy, chugging his beer, "you were a marine, right?"
"Were? You never stop being a marine, Guy. Semper Fi."
"Yeah, well, I was a gym teacher til I got hit by a bus. Look at me now. Space cop," changing his tone to sarcasm, "daddy've been proud."
"At least you had a father." John looked at guy with a smirk.
"Nah, he beat the shit out of me and his wife every day. " Guy looked seriously at John.
A brief moment of silence as they start to laugh hysterically. They fist-bump with their ring hands.
Fade to black.

A group of short, cloaked men stand around a glowing green ring.
+Ring status: Locating Hal Jordan... cannot locate Hal Jordan.+
"Lantern of Sector 2814 is missing. His ring came back here."
"It did not seek a new bearer?"
"Defective programming?
"No, the ring does not believe Hal Jordan is dead."
+Ring status: Locating Hal Jordan... cannot locate Hal Jordan.+
"But he is neither here nor in the anti-matter realm."
"No one can hide from the ring."
"How could he have just vanished? He was in the midst of a battle with Styx' minions."
"Ring, playback last moments prior to your return to Oa."
+Ring memory cannot be accessed. Ring status: Locating Hal Jordan... cannot locate Hal Jordan.+
"It matters not. Ring, initiate override. Hal Jordan is assumed dead. Locate a new bearer."
+Ring status: Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814 deceased. Scanning for replacement sentient."+
The ring flies off into space, disappearing from the Guardians' view as it reaches light speed, heading towards Space Sector 2814.
"Why such a hasty action? We still do not know what happened to Lantern Jordan."
"As I said, it matters not; Sector 2814 requires a lantern, Jordan or not. Let us observe as it finds a new bearer. This will be the legacy of both Abin Sur and Hal Jordan."
The fellow Guardians oblige, they form a circle; within their perimeter forms a large orb - a projection of the ring heading towards its target.
+Ring status: Scanning for replacement sentient. Replacement located.+
The Green Lantern power ring arrives once again, to Earth.
"Another Earthling? Hopefully not another human."
The ring loops around Earth several times before locating a specific location - it hurls through the atmosphere, towards it's new bearer.
Elsewhere, in a Coast City bar...Guy Gardner overhears another patron talking shit about the Red Sox. As Guy tries to instigate a fight; the patron's friend, John Stewart warns him to back off. The bar staff asks them to take their beef outside. John Stewart, Guy Gardner; strangers at this time.
As they are about to fight, the Green Lantern power ring descends upon them.
As the ring beings to report its status, it seems to malfunction, announcing two bearers at the same time:
+Guy Gardner of Earth. You have the ability to overcome great fear.+
+John Stewart of Earth. You have the ability to overcome great fear.+
The ring floats in one spot, unable to go to either.
+Error. Error. Seeking solution.+
The Guardians, watching from Oa, "Two bearers? This cannot be possible. "
"Hal Jordan must have broken his ring."

The Guardians, watching from Oa, "Two bearers? This cannot be possible. "
"Hal Jordan must have broken his ring."
"This...is an anomaly. Two bearers of equal worth."
"We must initiate an override and choose one ourselves, it seems."
"No, brothers. We must let the ring decide. We cannot intervene."
"The ring must choose it's bearer."
+Error. Error. Seeking solution... solution found.+
The ring surrounds itself in a green light. The ring, begins to split apart, duplicating itself.
Each ring, independently:
+Guy Gardner of Earth. You have the ability to overcome great fear.+
+John Stewart of Earth. You have the ability to overcome great fear.+
The rings float towards their respective bearer and slide onto their finger.
"Welcome to the GREEN LANTERN CORPS."
Back at the Guardian's citadel.
"Action must be taken."
"Agreed" several Guardians speak in unison.
"The Book of Oa has been violated."
"We cannot let Hal Jordan's rogue...perversion of a ring create it's own rules. Run havoc across the universe. We must summon these two recruits immediately, remove their rings and erase the memory of what had just occurred. "
"No, " a lone Guardian steps up, "my brothers; this is an an opportunity. We have tried to control the power of will for at least a thousand years. This is something new, unique, a ring... that has will itself. This must be allowed. This must be studied. This is true willpower at work. "Guardian, you are but one voice among a dozen. Who are you to demand such herecy of the book of Oa?"
"Who am I, brother? I am but a simple Guardian...you may call me Ganthet."
*chatter among the other guardians*
"A Guardian who has taken a name? By the Book of Oa! You have abandoned all that we hold sacred."
"No, brother, it is you had abandoned your own soul. Your identity. Your self-respect. Your own...will. You have stripped yourself of emotion. For what? To idly sit and decide the fate of the Universe?"
"You will not sway the rest of the Guardians with your self-righteousness. Your opinion is yours alone."
"You are sorely mistaken; I am not alone."
Another Guardian amongst them lowers their hood, revealing a feminine facial structure.
Ganther, introducing her, "This is Sayd, she has taken an identity unique amongst us. She has assumed a female identity. I assure you, nothing in the Book of Oa forbids this."
The rest of the Guardians gasp and chatter amongst themselves.
Ganthet continues, "Sayd and I hope that the rest of you, our brothers will also choose to take identities. Unmask your emotions. Truly become creatures of will."
Sayd speaks, "In the meantime, while you figure out what this means for the futures of yourselves, Ganthet and I will bring the new recruits and commence their training. For the future of the Corps."
Ganthet and Sayd walk out of the Guardian citadel. The other Guardians are awestruck by the revelation of what just occurred.
Ganthet, speaking to Sayd, "That went better than I thought it would."
Sayd, "Quite. Though we shouldn't delay this any longer with idle chat."
Sayd raises her hand, palm-up, to chest level, "Mogo, are you in position to teleport the new recruits?"
An deep, echoing voice responds, "Yes, Guardian Sayd. Commencing portal generation."
Back on Earth, while John and Guy are in the midst of trying to figure out what the hell a Green Lantern Corps is...
A giant green light surrounds both them. When the light clears, they are no longer present.
